Report on the Seminar for Career Counseling

25th March, Kolkata: On Saturday, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College held a special seminar for Career Counseling, it was organized by the college’s Journalism and Mass Communication Department, in collaboration with NSS, IQAC, Career Counseling & Guidance Cell & Placement Cell. The seminar started at 2:00 PM and was held in the college’s “Rabindra Sabhagriho” Hall. The guest of honour and main speaker for this seminar was Dr Partha Chatterjee, a Journalist, a Counselor, and an Educator. Dr Partha Chatterjee after graduating from college, got a Commonwealth Journalist Scholarship and went to Britain to take hands-on lessons in Journalism. He returned to the country in 1961 and worked as a journalist in four newspapers for 37 years. He worked in prominent newspapers like the Adanda Bazar Patrika, he was also the editor for the newspaper ‘Parivartan’ for four years. In 1998, he joined Assam University as their Principal and Dean of the Department of Mass. He has received many awards and honours, like the International Jefferson Communication. He retired in 2002 and is now a prolific writer. He has been the recipient of many awards and honours, like the International Jefferson Fellowship in 1974. He has travelled around the world giving encouraging and often times life-changing lectures to students.

The seminar began with the song “Aaguner Parasmoni” which was written by Rabindranath Tagore, after which a short introductory documentary film on the life story of Dr Partha Chatterjee was shown, in the film, Dr Partha Chatterjee said “Journalism is to write about the truth which is observed without any form of bias”, he also said, “I think of myself as a communicator instead of a journalist, though people call me one [journalist]”.

After the documentary film ended, the college’s Principal Dr Rajyasri Neogy commemorated the honoured guest by presenting him with a small memento. After which the stage was taken by Ms Nabina Roy Majumder, who talked about the books written by Dr Chatterjee, After which she introduced to the audience, that a small stall was put up by Dey’s Publishing house, in the back of the hall, which contained some of the books written by the guest of honour. Later on, an ex-student of the college sang the song “Eki Labonne Purno Prane” which was also written by Rabindranath Tagore.

Once the song ended, Dr Partha Chatterjee took the stage, he started his speech with a beautiful poem and then he talked about how so many people were present there, right at that moment to learn about how to succeed instead of wasting their time watching movies and serials. He said “The definition of success varies from person to person… What is considered being successful by one person may simply be the starting point of another person” He also told those present, that to be successful they must “First deserve [to be successful], then desire [to be successful]”. He commented that “Everyone desires love, and recognition from those around them and the ‘want’ to be successful primarily stems from those desires”. He claimed that to be successful, one must practice self-love; he also said that self-love is one of the most important qualities of a successful person. He then goes on to explain how the capitalist economy only makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, and how a person can break free from this to gain financial success. But, then he talked about how in the past there used to only be one or two billionaires in the country, but now billionaires were being found throughout the county by the handful, yet few people even know all of their names, he then said that to be successful, a person also needed fame. He told the audience that getting a good education won’t necessarily guarantee success and that people nowadays, especially in foreign countries, after passing their higher secondary exams, would not always go to college but instead start to learn practical skills. Partha Chatterjee later talked about how in the state of West Bengal students had trouble finding employment opportunities, as most of them were not taught necessarily. He then proceeded to say that to be successful; a person must persist and keep struggling despite what difficulties they might face. He claimed that Government jobs offered high job security, but limited growth in terms of job position, whereas Private jobs offered high growth in terms of job position, but were limited in job security He urged those present to learn new-age practical skills and to keep up with the current affairs, instead of just focusing on educational degrees. He then asked if anyone in the audience had any questions, and many did, he listened to their questions and answered each one. He told those present that to be successful, a person needed to be assertive, but not overwhelming or overbearing. Dr Partha Chatterjee said that a person who wanted to be successful should neither be aggressive nor shy, but maintain a balance between the two. He ended his speech by listing the qualities of a successful person, which according to him were decisiveness, honesty, integrity, the ability to say “No”, a strong resolve, decision-making skills and the mindset to resolve problems.

After his speech, the college’s English Department’s head also Carrier Guidance Cell head; Dr Swati Roy Chowdhury gave an ending speech and on behalf of the college expressed gratitude to Dr Partha Chatterjee. And with that, the enlightening seminar came to an end.

তনুশ্রী দে, কলকাতা, ২৫ মার্চ : বিজয়গড় জ্যোতিষ রায় কলেজের সাংবাদিকতা ও গণজ্ঞাপন বিভাগের উদ্যোগে আজ ২৫ শে মার্চ আয়োজিত হল কেরিয়ার কাউন্সিলিং সংক্রান্ত একটি অনুষ্ঠান। সাংবাদিকতা বিভাগের সঙ্গে এই অনুষ্ঠানটির সহযোগিতায় ছিল কলেজের এনএসএস , আইকিউএসি, কেরিয়ার কাউন্সেলিং এন্ড গাইডেন্স সেল এবং প্লেসমেন্ট সেল। আজকের আলোচনার বিষয় ছিল ‘কি করে জীবনে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হবো’। সাংবাদিক তথা জীবনবাদী লেখক অধ্যাপক ড. পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায় ছিলেন আজকের অনুষ্ঠানের মুখ্য বক্তা। অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়েছিল দুপুর ২ টো নাগাদ, বিজয়গড় জ্যোতিষ রায় কলেজের রবীন্দ্র সভাগৃহে। উপস্থিত ছিলেন কলেজের অধ্যক্ষা ড. রাজ্যশ্রী নিয়োগী, কলেজের সাংবাদিকতা গণজ্ঞাপন বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক ড. অর্ণব কুমার বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়, ইংরেজি বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপিকা ড. স্বাতী রায় চৌধুরী , মাইক্রোবায়োলজি বিভাগের অধ্যাপিকা ড. শাস্বতী গায়েন প্রমুখ। কলেজের ছাত্রছাত্রী এবং কলেজের অধ্যাপক-অধ্যাপিকা এবং শিক্ষাকর্মী বৃন্দ এবং বাইরের অতিথিরা সহ প্রায় ২০০ জন এই অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

লেখক অধ্যাপক ড. পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায় সাংবাদিকতা ও গণজ্ঞাপন নিয়ে অনেক বই লিখেছেন। সাংবাদিকতার ছাত্রছাত্রীরা তার লেখা বই পড়ে অনেক উপকৃত হন। তার লেখা বইয়ের মধ্যে ‘গণজ্ঞাপন ও তত্ত্ব প্রয়োগ’, ’হিকি সাহেবের গেজেট’, ‘সংবাদ বিদ্যা’ প্রমুখ। এছাড়া সাংবাদিকতা ছাড়াও বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে অনেক বই তার প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। তার মধ্যে ‘কেমন করে আত্মবিশ্বাস বাড়াবেন’, ‘কেমন করে স্মৃতিশক্তি বাড়াবেন’, ‘ইস্কুলে যা পড়ানো হয় না’, ‘এখনও সুযোগ আছে’, ‘কেমন করে মানুষ চিনবেন’ ইত্যাদি বইগুলি উল্লেখযোগ্য। কলেজের অধ্যক্ষা ড. রাজ্যশ্রী নিয়োগী স্মারক দিয়ে সাংবাদিক ড.পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়কে বরণ করে নেন।

অর্পিতা সর্দারের কণ্ঠে উদ্বোধনী সংগীত দিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানটি শুরু হয়। সঙ্গীতের পর ড.পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায় কে নিয়ে তৈরি করা একটি তথ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শিত হয়। তথ্যচিত্রতে ফুটে ওঠে জীবনবাদী লেখক ড.পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের ছোট থেকে বড় হয়ে ওঠার অমসৃণ পথ চলার গল্প।

অধ্যক্ষা ড. রাজ্যশ্রী নিয়োগী তার বক্তব্যে ড. পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের প্রতি আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন। বক্তব্য রাখেন। তিনি তার বক্তব্যে বলেন, “সব কিছু সম্ভব পৃথিবীতে, যদি নিজের মধ্যে ইচ্ছা থাকে। তার জীবনের প্রসঙ্গ তুলে তিনি বলেন, তিনিও অনেক লড়াই করেছেন জীবনের পথে চলতে। এমন কিছু করা দরকার জীবনে যার দ্বারা কেবল মাত্র বেঁচে থাকাকালীনই নয়, মৃত্যুর পরেও মানুষটিকে সবাই মনে রাখবে।” তিনি আরও জানিয়েছেন, ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ভবিষ্যতের কথা চিন্তা করেই আজকের এই অনুষ্ঠান।

ড.পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের বক্তব্য শুরু হওয়ার আগে তার লেখা কিছু জীবন বোধের কথা তার বই থেকে পাঠ করে শোনান নবীনা রায় মজুমদার।

“একি লাবণ্যে পূর্ণ প্রাণে” – এরকম একটি গান দিয়ে সাংবাদিকতা বিভাগের অধ্যাপিকা অর্পিতা সরদার শ্রোতাদের আকৃষ্ট করে তোলেন। এরপর শুরু হয় জীবনবাদী লেখক ড. পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের প্রানোজ্জ্বল বক্তব্য।

একটি কবিতার পাঠের মধ্যে দিয়ে তিনি তার বক্তব্য তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বলেন তার জীবনের সংগ্রাম শুরু তার শৈশব জীবন থেকেই। তার জীবনের সংগ্রামের গল্প শোনান সকলকে। সকল ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মনে অনুপ্রেরনা জাগিয়ে তুলেছেন। প্রতিষ্ঠিত হতে গেলে নিজেকে কীভাবে তৈরি করতে হবে, লক্ষ্য স্থির করে নিজেকে কীভাবে প্রস্তুত করতে হবে সেই পথের দিশাই দেখিয়েছেন আজকে বক্তা। তার লেখা কিছু বই প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল দে ‘জ পাবলিকেশনে।

তার লেখা কিছু বই নিয়ে একটি স্টল রাখা হয়েছিল আলোচনা সভার ভিতরে। সকলের জন্য জল-খাওয়ার ব্যবস্থা রাখা হয়েছিল। উপস্থিত ছিল বহু সংখ্যক ছাত্রছাত্রী।

আজকের বিষয়টি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের কাছে খুব মনোগ্রাহী হয়ে ওঠে। বক্তার আলোচনার শেষের প্রশ্ন-উত্তর পর্ব চলে। ছাত্রছাত্রীরা বক্তাকে প্রশ্ন করেন এবং তিনি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেন। শেষে সাংবাদিকতা বিভাগ নির্মিত ড. পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের ওপর একটি তথ্যচিত্র দেখানো হয়।

আজকের বিষয়টি ছিল ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। সম্পূর্ণ অনুষ্ঠানটি সঞ্চালনা করেন অধ্যাপক ড. অর্ণব কুমার বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। বিকেল ৫ টা নাগাদ অনুষ্ঠানটি সমাপ্ত হয়। অধ্যাপিকা ড. স্বাতী রায় চৌধুরী সকলকে আনুষ্ঠানিক ধন্যবাদ জানিয়ে আজকের অনুষ্ঠানটি সমাপ্ত করেন।
